Our Story
FOUNDED BY BRITT & MIAH
Sun Beat Films is owned by Britt and Miah Idema — a husband-and-wife team who've been making films together for over a decade.
In 2018 we gathered 60 of our friends and family in Costa Rica, rented a beachfront property, surfed by day and partied by night, and officially got married. That week taught us what a wedding celebration is worth — and the value of having it all on film.
Eight years and two kids later, we don't regret a single moment or detail. Our wedding video still brings it all back as if it were yesterday — the commitment, the love, the joy. Before the kids, before the pressure and the responsibilities, it was just us.
That's the feeling we're after in every film we make.

THE PEOPLE WHO'LL BE THERE
Over the years we've brought filmmakers and editors into the Sun Beat family across Hawaii, California, and Europe — each trained in our documentary approach. It's a small group on purpose. We'd rather turn down a date than hand it to someone we don't know.
Who's at your wedding
Britt and Miah lead every project. Depending on your date and where you're getting married, you'll be filmed by the two of us or by one of the filmmakers we've trained — and you'll know exactly who, long before the day.

The Edit Room
EVERY FILM COMES THROUGH OUR MAUI STUDIO
However far we travel, every frame comes home to this building. We don't outsource edits. That's how a film shot in Palm Springs and a film shot on the road to Hana end up feeling like they came from the same hands.
It's a small studio on an open slope above the water in Haiku — which is, as it turns out, a decent place to spend a month living inside someone's wedding day.
